Ain't no party like a Groupe party!

Hello friends of SSV and Groupe,

Our apologies for the late notice, but this invite was just finished last night. Regardless, we’re sure this will be worth a last minute change of plans.

As this night is going to be quite intimate, in more ways than one, we’re only extending this invitation to a small number of our favorite customers, and RSVP’s are an absolute must. A quick response is the way to go.

1981 Ferrari 308 GTSi

Yes, the very same “Magnum P.I. car” (ok, the exact model and color at least, but our seats are black leather not tan). See photo for proof, that’s young Tom towering beside his.

We Groupians have a thing for cars and pop culture.

Other relevant specs: 49k miles. Engine professionally rebuilt and clutch replaced at 47k miles, so only 2k miles on the new motor and clutch which means basically new. Three liter VR with Bosch fuel injection. Five speed manual. Original Alpine AM/FM/Cassette stereo. Has cosmetic blemishes, but otherwise in great shape with good paint.

Asking price: $35k. It’s a great NYC car for someone who actually wants to drive it and not worry quite as much about the little stuff.

Troglodyte Homunculus Fall 2007

New Troglodyte Homunculus here at Groupe 16sur20! Some favorites include our contrast-lined hoodies and a new crop of over shirts for these more-than-brisk November afternoons. Look at the photos below to get an idea and then come visit us to see the stuff in action. We love company on cold days, especially those bearing hot apple cider or cozy anecdotes. Just throwing that out there.

Also don't forget that we can ship anywhere you are! Just give us a call at 212-343-0007.

STEVE DIBENEDETTO @ GROUPE 16SUR20

Continuing our tradition of showing off exciting artist exhibitions amid menswear, we bring you our latest showing: Steve Dibenedetto. Fresh from his group show at the Whitney, Dibenedetto is one of our favorite artists to be showcased at Groupe16sur20 in quite some time. His work, with its thick webs of paint, "disturbs as much as it enchants", giving the eye something more than its usual fare. We shouldnt' say this, but this display is so fascinating, you could almost forget you're standing in a clothing store. But that is off the record.

JAMES SELECTS HIS FAVORITE CARS FOR MEN.STYLE.COM

SAYING GOODBYE IS NEVER EASY

In honor of our beloved Aston Martin 1983 Lagonda, we'd just like to say... we'll miss you! The scheduled departure is for Monday October 22nd, so you still have time to come ogle the Lagonda over the weekend.

If you're not familiar with the Aston Martin Lagonda, Tom Evans has written a brief history:

"Aston Martin was about to go bust – again - in the 1970s and they needed a new car pronto to shore up their finances. In just seven months designer William Towns took the car from a back of the envelope sketch to finished prototype. The car he came up with was a 4-door limousine, the Lagonda, which made a smash appearance at the 1976 Earl’s Court motor show. The looks still greatly divide opinion and you either love it or you hate it, but we should perhaps be grateful that the 250 deposits taken for the car then helped save the firm. When the car turned up two years later it was woefully unreliable and came with suitably 1970s space-age LED electronic instruments, which worked about as well as you might expect: very badly. The rest of the car was little better; the aristocratic owners of the first production model had to be followed around by a low-loader in case it broke down, so common was this occurrence".

Fall/Winter Arrivals - Troglodyte Homunculus

Today was the first day of the year that really felt like fall might finally be here. Sure, it’s only the week after Labor Day and you’re probably still trying squeeze out the last of your summer weekends, but around here, we’re ready for some brisk air and an excuse to put on a new sweater. Sorry, but they look too good to be sitting on a shelf!

What’s, arguably, even more appealing about these sweaters than the way they look and feel is the fact that they aren’t named after various flora or fauna. We’ve got good old fashioned blues, greys, and browns. Not pictured: verdant. Just kidding, it’s only green.

Seize sur Vingt Hosts: BABY ELEPHANT & PRINCE PAUL

GROUPE / Seize sur Vingt is pretty thrilled to announced our upcoming event with Prince Paul and Newkirk of Baby Elephant, the first ever “Baby Elephant Funk Party”, celebrating the release of their new album. In our usual style, 10CANE will be making the drinks and you know the music will be good, but since it’s on a Saturday this time, we’re thinking about turning up the proverbial notch once or twice. Hope you can make it.

Groupe 16sur20 End of Summer Sale

Groupe 16sur20 is featuring an exclusive sale tailored to your end-of-summer needs: Seersucker suits for all those late afternoons you’ll be spending on verandas, twill pants whose pockets you can fill with bills and wear to the racetrack, and our strategically deconstructed shoes that will hold up to an especially rough game of petanque. Alternatively, you can go ahead and wear any of these items to work, or, if you must, on the subway. We’re just that versatile!
Check out the slideshow below for a first look at what's featured. To view the pictures, click on the thumbnails. If you see something you like, give us a call or email and we'd be happy to assist.

GQ Press

In case you missed it, look at the nice pictures of us in GQ this month: Click here for the slideshow. If that attractive shoe has caught your eye, you’re not alone – the readers of GQ have been hounding us about it since the article was published. We’re currently backordered until September, but there is a waiting list, so make sure you get in touch with us about that if you’re interested. Of course, you can get in touch with us about almost anything, but in this case we’re suggesting the topic of shoes.

One more plug from GQ: 100 Best Stores In America! We think this is a really great honor, as this is our second year running to be featured. Check out the full list: Click here for the slideshow.

Next Thursday we’re celebrating another achievement, our 9th Year Anniversary! It was a different story here in Nolita back in 1998 when James and Gwen broke ground on their little shop Seize sur Vingt, and we’re planning to mark that occasion with a typically rowdy Elizabeth Street garden party. Check back later for details.

Niki's Style Tips

NIKI SAYS:

"Liven up a soft thin stripe with a bold and contrasting polka dot"

"Complimentary diagonal lines break up a steady grid pattern"

Brought to you by the color RED

Commonly regarded as the first color known to man, it is the most controversial hue on the spectrum namely because of its conflicting connotations. Since the dawn of time, red has been associated with seduction and temptation - remember the apple that Eve couldn't resist? Or the sexy flowing dress that Gene Wilder went gaga for her in that '80s classic flick, The Woman in Red? And what about lure and secrecy of the Red Light District...?
Red is also the color most frequently used to represent passion and that infamous and often feared four letter word: l-o-v-e. From those cute little hand-drawn hearts on letters sent to secret crushes all around the world on St. Valentine's day, or the gift of a single long-stem rose to express fidelity. Red evokes a sense of youth like the cherry on top of a banana split; or Freedom - our forefathers sure knew what they were doing when they put it on the flag. Finally, red is also used for safety measures like stop signs, fire trucks... the list goes on and on...

Red, with so many mixed signals it's no wonder that people either love it or hate it!

Other red things:
red-light district
cherries
strawberries
Santa Clause's uniform
stop signs
fire trucks
tomatoes
blood
Italian race cars

Introducing...

Welcome to Groupe / Seize sur Vingt’s first ever blog entry. We’re slowly inching our way into the new millennium and dragging our “old world” sensibilities with us. Here you will be able to check in with us on upcoming events, sales, and products, take a look at the accomplishments of special customers and Groupe / Seize sur Vingt team members, online art exhibits, and anything else we feel like contributing to the interweb!

Our first item of business is to announce our semi-annual sample sale, which will be held at Groupe 16sur20 from July 20th to the 28th . As always, our sample sale will include select items from all three of our in-house brands, Seize sur Vingt, Troglodyte Homunculus, and UBNY, and give you a chance to pick up some of our luxurious products at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, we are not able to hold anything for anyone (no matter HOW special a customer you are!), but the sale will be running for awhile, so you’ll have plenty of time to come in and grab a deal or two.

Also on the agenda is our online store news: We've teamed up with Refinery29 to bring you Groupe Seize sur Vingt: Online. Now you can shop for Seize sur Vingt, UBNY and Troglodyte Homunculus staples with ease, all while being just clicks away from other hard-to-get-to boutiques like In God We Trust, Oak, and Freemans Sporting Club. We'll be getting our own store up and running soon, we hope, but in the meantime Refinery29 will take care of you at our online store. You can still email us with any questions or comments at store@16sur20.com.

That’s all for now! Check back in a few days for information about our big Anniversary Party, being held soon in our infamous garden. It should be the party of the summer, so stay posted for details.

All the best,

Groupe / Seize sur Vingt
