Official Groupe Seize sur Vingt Holiday Promotion

We've offered solid investment advice for over 10 years.

At Seize sur Vingt and Groupe, we don't see clothes as a commodity. Timeless construction and style are the cornerstones of everything we make, which is why many of our customers are still able to wear shirts and suits from our first collection proudly.

Continuing this tradition of value, our entries into the 2008 Holiday Promotion Showdown:

GIFT CERTIFICATE ARBITRAGE

That’s right, get a $500 gift card for $425, or $1,000 for $800. And if you’ve never seen one, we make one of the nicest gift certificates in town, complete with handwritten card, tucked into a beautiful handmade fabric envelope then secured in a jewelry box with a ribbon to top it off. You can even personally select fabric swatches as a teaser to accompany your card. *See details below for restrictions.

IN-STORE SPECIALS

From now through December 24th, we’ve lowered prices on a wide range of winter clothing and gear. Most sweaters, neckties, suits, jackets, coats and pants are 25% off. Even some shirts have been selected for a discount.

PS: Thanks to everyone who made it to our holiday party on Tuesday at the Plaza. We’ll be posting the photos on our blog momentarily at www.16sur20.com and they’re certainly worth the look.

*Gift certificate restrictions: offer available through December 24th, may be redeemed beginning December 26th and valid for one year. May not be redeemed for sample sale purchases. Recipient information is held in our database, so don’t worry if you lose your card, you can still redeem it.

Seize sur Vingt (soft-)opens at the Plaza

Come see the new Retail Collection at The Plaza before it’s even finished. You see, we’re among the first group of shops that are complete and ready for business, while most of the space is still in construction. Check it out now to earn the “I saw it when” bragging rights.

We’re quite proud of our new digs. The store was sleekly and elegantly designed by the architecture firm 212box. Some of the details you’ll want for your own place – the massive rolling cabinets and slightly voyeuristic fitting mirrors are clearly the highlights. The really great news is that no matter where you live in NYC, you aren’t too far from your favorite shirts now.

To celebrate our northward expansion, and while we wait for our neighbors to open, we’re offering a discount of 15% on all suits/jackets/coats, ready-to-wear and custom, and even our cashmere sweaters and excellent 7-fold neckties. Not to discriminate against the downtown-bound, we’ll give the same deal to those of you who want to stop by either of the Elizabeth Street spaces.

We’re offering this exclusively to our loyal customers, so be sure to let us know you got this email when you stop in. The excitement of the unfinished Plaza won’t last much longer, and the deal is only good to Thanksgiving.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Seize sur Vingt 10 Year Anniversary Celebration

Seven years maybe, but 10 years seems hard to believe.

Please join us in celebration of a decade of understated modern classics and slightly riotous garden parties on Elizabeth St. We've had a wonderful time building a business and a family, both real and metaphorical, in our little corner of this great city. We feel lucky and honored to have been given such a great opportunity.

Let's raise a glass also to 3 years of Groupe 16sur20 with Troglodyte Homunculus, Wolf-Rayet, UBNY and the micro-conglomerate we've started in the old marble factory up the street.

And save at least one toast to an exciting future starting with the SSV shop opening in the Plaza Hotel by October as well as the Springlawn Hotel in Lenox MA, now slated for a late 2009 launch. We certainly hope to keep growing, but always focusing on the highest quality product and the most intimate and personal service.

Thanks to everyone for your support and patronage. Hoping to see you on today.

Sincerely,
Gwendolyn and James Jurney

Lotus Turbo Esprit is Back!

She’s back. The Ghost of Groupe, that white-hot heartthrob of a vehicle, our Lotus Turbo Esprit has come home for the summer to bask in familial adoration and get some much needed R&R. She looks better than ever even after a fellowship in the Berkshires, and we’re thrilled to have her back among us. And just in time for our first big party of the year. Come by to welcome her home and to find out more.

About The Lotus:

The Turbo Esprit is the third and final evolution of the Giorgetto Giugiaro Esprit design concept that debuted in 1975 with the original Esprit S1.

While the Esprit’s pioneering “wedge” silhouette had always given the car fast looks, the normally aspirated powerplants on earlier models were somewhat underpowered. Endowed with a Garrett turbocharger, and in the North American versions, Bosch fuel injection, the 2.2 liter engine in the Turbo Esprit pumps out 215 horsepower —enough power to propel the car from rest to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds, on the way to a Vmax of 150 mph.

Underneath the angular fiberglass exterior, the Esprit continues the Lotus “backbone” chassis design also featured on the original Elan. This construction allows for structural rigidity and also dictates the wide center console of the interior.

Living up to its reputation as England’s reigning supercar of the decade, the Esprit was chosen by the producers of the James Bond films as a fitting replacement for 007’s aging Aston DB5. The original “submarine” vehicle in “The Spy Who Loved Me” was actually a white S1 normally aspirated car, but the shape proved so popular that it made a second appearance in the later “For Your Eyes Only,” in the form of not one but two Turbo Esprits.

The first vehicle, also a white car, self-destructs early in the film when a henchman tries to break in. The second vehicle is a cinnamon metallic Turbo Esprit, driven by Bond in the Cortina ski resort sequences.

Our car was specially ordered by the original owner as an homage to the “submarine” car. It should be noted that the unique full leather white interior differs from the movie car, which featured plaid cloth seats. Additionally, US-spec cars did not generally come with the side script and double racing stripe as shown on “The Spy Who Loved Me” cars. To our knowledge, there is only one other LHD Giugiaro Turbo Esprit in this color combination, located in Switzerland.

For more information about purchasing this vehicle, please contact us directly.

Seize sur Vingt in Details Magazine - May 2008

We’re not one to tout our own tux, but take a look at page 145 of the new Details: Our Rex Harrison tuxedo shirt is featured with Mr. Tom Ford’s bowtie and looking pretty sharp if we do say so ourselves. Wedding season in full swing, and we do special orders!

New Spring/Summer Arrivals

To celebrate Earth Day, we suggest wearing new clothing. Namely, a fresh looking spring suit from Troglodyte Homunculus or button down shirt from Seize sur Vingt. Think about it: the nicer your clothes look, the happier people will be to see you, and the happier people are, the less likely they will be to litter. Consider the Earth celebrated (and possibly even saved). We’re just saying…

2004 Caterham Superlight R

Come by GROUPE 16sur20 to take a look at the latest installment to our ever-revolving auto show. An evolution of our trademark piece the Lotus, the Caterham looks like a dune buggy and drives like a racecar. With its Aztec Orange body paint, and ultra lightweight construction, this baby looks like our hearts feel: bright, breezy, and ready for spring. So if you need a shot in the proverbial arm, stop by 267 Elizabeth and we guarantee you’ll feel better.

New Spring/Summer 2008 Custom Swatches

Rejoice! Seize sur Vingt’s proprietary shirtings are now available for viewing online. If you’re a returning customer with no changes to be made to the pattern, you can browse through our collection and place an order on the phone without ever having to set foot on Elizabeth Street (or in NYC for that matter). Alternatively, if you really like us and want to come hang out, you can peep the collection ahead of time so that you can spend more time in the garden and less time poring over swatches.

One caveat: as we all know by now, most monitors have differences in color representation, so keep that in mind if you’re picky about shades!

Have fun!

Bueller...Bueller...Bueller...Anyone?

He may be forever be emblazoned in all of our hearts and minds as the lovable Ferris Bueller, but Matthew Broderick cleans up quite well in one of our dress shirts.

All in a days work: the story behind the shoes

Did you know that it takes approximately 130 people to make a single pair of precisely handcrafted Alfred Sargent & Sons shoes? Our Stylist, Niki, recently had the pleasure of visiting the handmade shoe factory to get a glimpse of the secret skills involved in turning a piece of raw leather into a fine shoe. From selecting the leather to clicking, then gimping, brogueing, tanning, lining, and then finishing; it’s a complicated process, but somebody has do it!
Check out some of the photos from her tour of the factory in Northamptonshire England.
